New: Password-Protected QR Codes, a Pricing Page, and a Cleaner Dashboard
Published October 16, 2026 路 By the QR Code Banana Team
You can now put a password on a dynamic QR code. Anyone who scans it sees a short password screen first, and only people who know the password reach the destination. We also shipped a proper pricing page and tidied up the dashboard. Here is what changed.
Password-Protected QR Codes
Some QR codes are not meant for everyone who walks past them. Think of a link to staff onboarding docs on an office poster, a code for a private event page, or a client preview printed in a pitch deck. Until now, anyone with a camera could open those.
With Banana Pro, you can now set a password on any dynamic QR code:
- Open the code in your dashboard and go to Settings.
- Under Password protection, type a password and click Set password.
- That is it. The printed code stays the same.
When someone scans the code, they see a simple screen that asks for the password. Enter it correctly and they go straight to the destination. A correct password is remembered on their phone for 24 hours, so a second scan does not ask again.
You can change or remove the password at any time. Changing it signs out everyone who used the old one.
What it protects, and what it does not
We want to be clear about this. The password protects the QR link, not the destination itself. If someone already has the destination URL, they can open it directly. So the password is a good fit for "only people I gave the password to should get there through this code". It is not a replacement for a real login on a private document.
A few details we built in on purpose:
- We never store your password. We keep only a scrambled hash. That is also why we cannot show you the password again later; you can only set a new one.
- The destination stays hidden. The password screen never contains the destination URL.
- Guessing is slowed down. After 5 wrong attempts, that visitor has to wait 15 minutes.
Scans vs. unlocks
Every scan still counts in your analytics, whether or not the person knew the password. On codes with a password, the stats now show a new Unlocked number next to total scans. If a poster gets 300 scans and 40 unlocks, you know a lot of people were curious, but only your intended audience got through.
A Real Pricing Page
Until today, the only place to compare Free and Banana Pro was the login screen. Now there is a dedicated pricing page that explains, in plain words, what you get on each plan:
- Free, forever: unlimited static QR codes, every design option, SVG, PNG and JPG downloads, and a free account to save your designs.
- Banana Pro, $5 per month: up to 10 dynamic QR codes with editable destinations, scan analytics, password protection, and pause or scan limits.
The page also answers the questions people ask before they pay, including the uncomfortable one: what happens to dynamic codes if you cancel? They stop redirecting until you subscribe again. Static codes are never affected. We think you should know that before you print anything, not after.
Not sure which kind of code you need? Our guide to static vs. dynamic QR codes walks through it with real examples.
A Cleaner Dashboard
We also spent some time on the details of the dashboard:
- Settings in two columns. Each section of a QR code's settings now has its title, an icon, and a short explanation on the left, and the controls on the right. Status, General, Redirect, Password protection, and Danger zone are easy to find at a glance.
- Icons on the stats. Total scans, unique scans, unlocks, the last 30 days, and the daily average each have their own icon, so you can read the numbers faster.
- A tidier sidebar. Dashboard, Search, Library, and Analytics sit at the top with larger icons, and Feedback moved to the bottom.
- A simpler site menu. The main navigation now shows Use Cases, Pricing, and Blog, with your account button on the right.
