New: AI Prompt QR Codes and a Live Scannability Score

Published October 24, 2026 路 By the QR Code Banana Team

A QR code can now start a conversation with an AI. Write a prompt once, print the code, and everyone who scans it lands in ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, or Le Chat with your question already typed. We also added a live scannability score, so you know if a design will work before it goes to the printer.

AI Prompt QR Codes

Typing a long question on a phone is slow, and most people give up halfway. An AI prompt QR code skips that step. The prompt lives inside the code, and the scan does the typing.

Some ideas we like:

  • Restaurants: "Which wine goes best with the truffle pasta?" on the table card.
  • Product boxes: "How do I set up this router, step by step?" next to the manual.
  • Classrooms: "Explain question 4 like I am 12" at the bottom of a worksheet.
  • Museums: "Tell me the story behind this painting" next to each exhibit.
  • Talks: "Summarize the key ideas of this talk" on the last slide.

How to make one

  1. Open the AI prompt QR code generator, or pick AI prompt from the More menu on the homepage.
  2. Choose the app: ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, or Le Chat by Mistral.
  3. Write your prompt, or click a template (Restaurant, Product help, Classroom, Museum, Event, Travel) and replace the parts in square brackets.
  4. Style it like any other code, and download it as SVG, PNG, or JPG.

As with every static code on QR Code Banana, the code is made in your browser. We never see your prompt.

Why it opens the website, not the app

We tested this on real phones. When the AI app is installed, the phone opens the app for these links, but the apps do not pick up the prompt. You get an empty chat, which defeats the point.

So the codes open the AI website in the browser instead, where the prompt arrives every time. It also means the code works on any phone, with or without the app.

One thing to know about Claude and Le Chat: both ask people to sign in before they can chat. ChatGPT and Perplexity answer many questions without an account. If your audience is the general public, ChatGPT or Perplexity is the safer pick.

Tips for a good prompt

  • Keep it short. Every character goes into the code. Under 300 characters keeps it easy to scan.
  • Add the context. The AI does not know your menu or your product. Name it and add the one or two facts that matter.
  • Ask for a format. "In 3 bullet points" or "in under 100 words" gives an answer that reads well on a phone.
  • Keep it public. Anyone who scans the code can read the prompt, so leave out anything private.

A Live Scannability Score

Design options are fun, but some combinations are hard for phones to read. Light yellow on white, no margin, a big logo, and sketchy dots all look great on screen and can fail on paper.

Every design now gets a scannability score from 0 to 100, right under the preview. It updates as you change things and shows up to three tips, the most important first. It checks:

  • Contrast between the code and the background, including gradients and custom corner colors
  • Inverted colors, which some older scanner apps cannot read
  • Transparent backgrounds, which depend on the surface you print on
  • The quiet zone, the empty margin that helps scanners lock on
  • Density, because long content means small dots
  • Logo size, dot style, and decorative corner shapes

A score of 85 or more is excellent. Below 40, test carefully before you print a thousand copies. The score is a guide, not a guarantee, so a quick scan with your own phone is still the best final check.

Smaller Things

  • Quick picks for frame text. Under the call-to-action field you can now pick "Scan me!", "Ask AI", "View menu", "Scan to call", "Join WiFi", or "Save contact" with one click.
  • Clearer buttons. Toggle buttons in the editor now show a pointer when you hover over them.
